At least 7 killed in landslide in El Salvador, over 30 missing

At least seven individuals have been killed in a landslide sparked by heavy rains in El Salvador and greater than 30 extra are suspected lacking below a deluge of mud, the federal government mentioned on Friday.

The mudslide hit the village of Los Angelitos within the municipality of Nejapa, round 17 km (11 miles) north of the capital, San Salvador, after heavy rains in a single day loosened the earth on the flanks of the San Salvador Volcano.

“At about 11 o’clock at night there was thunder and suddenly, we felt like there was a quake, it was when (the landslide) was coming,” mentioned Ricarda Sibrian (43), who advised Reuters she had misplaced her daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law.

“But (it) had already reached my daughter’s house. We managed to get out, but we couldn’t get to her,” she mentioned.

El Salvador’s Civil Protection Agency mentioned the landslide had carved a route roughly four km in size via Los Angelitos, sweeping mud, rocks and tree trunks in its path.

Authorities mentioned there have been two youngsters among the many seven useless.
