Rajya Sabha polls: BJP gives BSP safe passage amid 11 nominations filed for 10 seats from Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi: A complete of 11 nominations, together with eight from the BJP, have been filed for 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday (October 27), which is the final day of submitting nominations for the polls scheduled for November 9.
Eight BJP candidates and an unbiased filed their papers on Tuesday, whereas Samajwadi Party candidate Ram Gopal Yadav and BSP candidate Ramji Gautam had filed nominations until Monday.
The eight BJP candidates — Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, MPs Neeraj Shekhar, Arun Singh, Geeta Shakya, Haridwar Dubey, Brijlal, B L Varma, and Seema Dwivedi — filed their nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
One unbiased Prakash Bajaj, who’s supported by the SP, additionally filed his nomination.
The BJP’s all eight nominees for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh are prone to win because the celebration has the three-fourth majority within the state meeting.

Of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh which can be falling vacant, three are of the BJP, 4 of the Samajwadi celebration, two of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and one among Congress. It is critical to get the vote of about 38 MLAs for the election of a member of Rajya Sabha.
A candidate wants 36 votes to win the election and the BJP with an efficient power of 305, can safely get eight members elected. The celebration may have 17 surplus votes, other than 9 votes of its ally, Apna Dal.
The BJP has not fielded the ninth candidate — apparently to permit a clean passage for the BSP which has solely 15 members within the state meeting (after two have turned rebels and one is in jail).
BSP`s Ramji Gautam, the celebration`s nationwide coordinator and in command of Rajasthan and Bihar, filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh on Monday. He is assured to win the seat with assist from the Congress which has 5 members and SP which has 9 surplus votes.
The BSP can be banking on smaller events like Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) which has 4 members.
The Samajwadi Party has fielded Prof Ram Gopal Yadav and has an efficient power of 45 votes which leaves it with a surplus of 9 votes. The celebration has not but disclosed what it plans to do with the excess votes.
At current, there are 304 MLAs from BJP, 48 from Samajwadi Party, 18 from BSP, 9 from Apna Dal, seven from Congress, 4 from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, and 5 of independents and small events.
