Pakistani airlines could be banned by 188 countries over pilot licensing issue
Islamabad: Airlines working in Pakistan might face a ban from flying to 188 nations over their pilot licensing challenge and failure to fulfill worldwide requirements as required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a media report stated on Sunday.
Due to the licence rip-off, flag service Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has already been barred from flying to the UK and the European Union, The Express Tribune report stated.
The rip-off got here to gentle after Ghulam Sarwar Khan, the Federal Minister for Aviation, had revealed in August that 262 pilots together with 141 of the PIA held faux credentials.
Meanwhile, the ICAO in its 12th assembly of its 179th session permitted a mechanism for addressing Significant Safety Concerns (SSCs) to its member states.
The ICAO issued a critical warning to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) over the protection issues.
In a letter dated November 3, the ICAO acknowledged that PCAA had failed to fulfill the worldwide requirements relating to the personnel licensing and coaching in relation to the licensing course of for pilot.
Therefore, the nation`s plane and pilots, are more likely to be barred from flying to 188 nations on the earth, The Express Tribune reported.
Regarding the warning, a Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association (Palpa) spokesperson stated: “This can have critical penalties and might be a complete catastrophe for Pakistan`s aviation business.
“Palpa had been elevating this challenge since June 2020 however sadly it was uncared for by the authorities involved.
“Palpa had forwarded several options to revamp the system in accordance with the international practices and also given a presentation.”
The affiliation has requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to intervene and arrange a particular activity pressure to deal with the matter on pressing foundation.
