Over 7.88 lakh Indians returned home under Vande Bharat Mission: MEA

New Delhi: Over 7.88 lakh Indians have returned from overseas after the federal government launched the “Vande Bharat” evacuation mission on May 7 in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Thursday.

Under the Phase four of the Vande Bharat mission, a complete of 1,197 flights have been scheduled to this point, together with 945 worldwide flights and 252 feeder flights, MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava stated at a media briefing.

“These flights are operated by the Air India group, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir. They cover 29 countries. They will be reaching 34 airports in India,” he stated.

Of these, 694 flights have reached India as on July 22, repatriating almost one lakh individuals to this point, he stated.

Phase four is predicted to proceed till August 2, by which era round 80,000 extra persons are anticipated to return, Srivastava stated.

“As on 22nd July, 7,88,217 Indian nationals have returned. 1,03,976 Indians have returned from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh by land borders,” he stated.

Noting that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had introduced institution of bilateral bubbles with some nations, the MEA spokesperson stated that between July 22 and August 31, Air India shall be working 30 flights every week to the US (New York, Chicago, Washington, New Jersey and San Francisco), 4 flights every week to Germany (Frankfurt) and three flights every week to France (Paris).

The ministry continues to be in contact with missions on particular calls for for repatriation from college students finishing their programs overseas, staff and different stranded Indians with compelling causes, he stated.

As regards to repatriation from Kyrgyzstan, Srivastava stated India is scheduling further flights.

“In fact, a number of such flights are scheduled and we are hopeful that with these additional flights we will be able to repatriate more and more of our students from there,” he stated.
Twenty-five flights have been organized from Bishkek to 13 locations in India from July three to 30, the MEA Spokesperson stated.

“When the current phase of Vande Bharat culminates, we would have 88 flights which would have brought back nearly 13,600 Indian nationals and this includes students,” Srivastava stated.

There was a restriction on chartered flights as a result of COVID state of affairs in Kyrgyzstan, however because of the intervention of the Indian ambassador, India may get hold of an exemption for such flights of function, he added.
