New Delhi: A day after Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a contract journalist for sharing delicate knowledge to China, it’s now closing in on the alleged hawala merchants associated to the case.

According to sources within the particular cell, an enormous amount of cash was despatched to Rajiv Sharma by hawala operators from each the shell firms owned by Qing Shi.

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested journalist Rajeev Sharma on Saturday after interrogating him for allegedly sharing secret defence papers with Chinese spy businesses. 

Rajeev Sharma, a resident of New Delhi’s Pitampura, was arrested together with a Chinese girl Qing Shi and her Nepali affiliate Sher Singh (aka Raj Bohra).

As per the police, the Chinese girl and her Nepalese affiliate have been paying Rajeev Sharma massive quantities of cash routed by shell firms.  

The investigation has up to now revealed that the shell firms are operated by overseas intelligence and they’re used to switch funds to Sharma and Chinese nationals Jhang Chang and his spouse Chang-li-lia run the businesses ‘MZ Pharmacy’ and ‘MZ Malls’ beneath faux names Suraj and Usha.

Sharma was arrested on September 14, 2020 and a Search Warrant was obtained for searching his residential premises.”

“During the search of the house of Sharma in Pitampura (New Delhi), one laptop, some confidential documents related to Indian Defence department and some other incriminating documents were recovered and seized,” stated Delhi Police in an official assertion.

Delhi Police added, “Forensic analysis of seized mobile phones and laptops is being conducted to unearth the entire network and conspiracy in this case. Identities and roles of other foreign nationals involved in the conspiracy are also being ascertained.”

Delhi Police stated that additional investigation within the case and with respect to the Chinese shell firms primarily based in Mahipalpur is in progress.
