‘The Casino’ review: Don’t bet on this series by Karanvir Bohra, Mandana Karimi
“The Casino: My Games. My Rules” (collection streaming on Zee5)
Cast: Karanvir Bohra, Mandana Karimi, Sudhanshu Pandey; Director: Hardik Gajjar
IANS Rating: * and half (one and a half stars)
This is exactly the type of present that makes a case towards OTT tradition. It is nearly as if all of the gaudy glitz that cinema chucked out some time again, and the cliches that had been starting to look stale even on tv, have discovered a brand new low-budget deal with for rehash on digital platform.
You realise polished thrills aren’t a precedence right here while you be aware the title of the present. “The Casino” would have appeared inviting sufficient. But they needed to suffix it tackily to name the present “The Casino: “My Games. My Rules” (reminds you of something like “Jaal: The Trap”, is not it).
The irony is the video games aren’t a lot price a savour, nor are the principles of intrigue participating. The stage of boredom triggered off by inane writing is such that you’d most likely neglect how it began (and what all began) by the point all of the episodes have performed out and the present has ended (assuming you could have persistence to sit down by).
Loads of strutting, posing and pouting goes on within the identify of exuding ‘swag’ (it is concerning the unhealthy, unhealthy world of playing, proper?), as completely amateurish course propped by non-existent writing expertise and ludicrous dialoguebaazi takes over. In reality, the plot is so in all places that making an attempt to choose up the items to current a quick synopsis appears fairly a job.
Briefly, the collection is about younger Vicky (Karanvir Bohra) whose father, the millionaire Marwah (Sudanshu Pandey), is a on line casino czar in Nepal. As the present labours on, we perceive a few issues. First, Vicky will get the burden of operating the on line casino and likewise defending its pursuits from a number of others with rapacious intent. Secondly, Marwah’s illicit lover Rehana (Mandana Karimi) has a glad eye on his son plus his on line casino.
So what occurs subsequent is — properly, not a lot else occurs. That’s about it for a 10-episode storyline (Deepak Pachori).
The present doesn’t have a single sensible plot twist. Drawing largely from Bollywood B-movies of the eighties, director Hardik Gajjar’s focus appears to be on establishing formulaic drama to replenish the runtime. The random steamy scenes lack spark, whereas many of the compelled motion seems to be jaded. The modifying is uneven in parts (did the actors shoot these scenes individually throughout lockdown?).
In a story that lacks creativity, the characters that the actors get to play out do not persuade. Mandana Karimi seems to be beautiful however she is just too plastic to exude the required shades of gray with display screen presence.
The joke of the present, although, should be Sudhanshu Pandey enjoying Karanvir Bohra’s father. Donning amateurish make-up, Sudhanshu seems to be just like the hero’s father we used to see senior collegemates play out in campus performs. In a bizarre approach, all of it gels with the affected appearing that the solid places up, in making an attempt to seem ‘cool’.
“The Casino” has been billed as a thriller. For the sake of thrillers, for those who cherish the style, do not guess on this one.
