PM Narendra Modi condoles death of 24 migrant workers in Auraiya road mishap; UP CM announces compensation, suspends cops

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the dying of 24 migrant employees in a highway accident in Uttar Pradesh and stated the federal government is finishing up aid work in full swing.

“The accident in Auraiya of Uttar Pradesh is very tragic. The government is carrying out relief work in full swing,” the Prime Minister tweeted. “I express my condolences to the families of those killed and wish the injured recover at the earliest,” he stated. 

At least 24 migrant labourers misplaced their lives and 36 folks sustained accidents when a trailer truck carrying them collided with one other truck within the early hours of Saturday on this district of Uttar Pradesh, police stated.

Both the vans had been carrying the labourers. The incident came about between three am and three.30 am, they stated. “The accident came about in Mihauli wherein 24 folks died, and round 36 had been injured. A trailer truck carrying round 50 migrant labourers was coming from Rajasthan and it collided with one other truck,’’ they stated.

Auraiya, which falls beneath the Kanpur division, is in south-west Uttar Pradesh. It is on the National Highway-19 and is 400 km away from Delhi and 200 km from Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deepest condolences to the households of the deceased. The CM has additionally introduced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for households of deceased individuals & Rs 50,000 for injured, he added.

Elaborating on the incident, Yadav stated, “The trailer truck hit the other vehicle, which was coming from Delhi and heading towards Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. Both the vehicles turned upside down after losing control.”

The Chief Minister, in a press release launched by the state authorities, directed the divisional commissioner and IG Kanpur to go to the location and provides a report on the reason for the accident instantly.

“UP chief minister has taken note of the unfortunate incident in Auraiya. He has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the labourers who lost their lives. He has also directed that all the injured be provided medical care and the Divisional Commissioner and IG Kanpur to visit the site and give the report on the cause of the accident immediately,” the assertion stated.

Inspector General, Kanpur, Mohit Agarwal stated a lot of the migrant labourers in each the autos had been from Jharkhand and West Bengal.

“The accident took place when some of the labourers travelling on the truck (coming from Delhi) halted on the Auraiya-Kanpur Dehat Road to have tea at a local shop. At this point of time, a truck coming from Rajasthan hit the stationary vehicle. The intensity of the hit was so huge that both the vehicles turned upside down and fell into a ditch on the roadside,” he stated.

“Of the 36 injured, as many as 14 labourers with serious injuries have been admitted to PGI in Saifai (in Etawah district), while 22 have been hospitalised in Auraiya,” he added.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi stated, “Going by the information received till now, there were a couple of migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district. Most of the deceased labourers were from West Bengal and Jharkhand.”

When requested whether or not any monetary help can be supplied to the households of the deceased, he stated info on this regard can be given quickly. Meanwhile, the state authorities has suspended Fatehpur Sikri Agra, SHO and Kosi Kalan, Mathura SHO with speedy impact on instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath.
