For how long will India be kept out of UN’s decision-making structures: PM Narendra Modi at UNGA

New Delhi: In his speech on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (September 26, 2020) made a powerful pitch for reforms on the United Nations (UN) and guaranteed New Delhi will assist the worldwide neighborhood amidst the COVID-19 disaster. 

PM Modi stated, “Reform in the responses, in the processes, and in the very character of the United Nations is the need of the hour. Today, people of India are concerned whether this reform-process will ever reach its logical conclusion. For how long will India be kept out of the decision-making structures of the United Nations?”

Highlighting India’s credential for the excessive desk, he stated, “This is a country which is the largest democracy of the world, this is a country with more than 18% of the world population, this is a country which has hundreds of languages, hundreds of dialects, many sects, and many ideologies. This is a country which was a leading global economy for centuries and also one which has endured hundreds of years of foreign rule.”

India is all set to turn into a non-permanent member of UNSC in January 2021. 

Earlier this month, the variety of groupings of which India is a component of–like G4 and IBSA in joint statements known as for expediting reforms at UN.

On COVID disaster, PM stated, “As the largest vaccine producing country of the world, I want to give one more assurance to the global community today. India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting this crisis. In India and in our neighbourhood, we are moving ahead with phase 3 clinical trials in India. India will also help all the countries in enhancing their cold chain and storage capacities for the delivery of the vaccines.”

Notably, India has reached out to 150 international locations with vaccines amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
