Diwali sales up 10.8%, goods worth Rs 72000 crore sold amid boycott of Chinese items
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), India’s prime retail commerce physique, has stated that gross sales in the course of the Diwali festive interval jumped by over 10% year-on-year, indicating “good business prospects” for small merchants within the nation.
According to CAIT, which represents hundreds of thousands of merchants throughout the India, the gross sales of its members throughout Diwali festive season that ended on Saturday elevated to greater than Rs 72,000 crore.
“People didn’t purchase anything in the last eight months except essentials. Hence people had enough surplus money, and a portion was spent on Diwali festivities,” Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT’s secretary common advised Reuters.

The CAIT stated that the ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Rajasthan and another states, prompted a lack of over Rs 10000 crore for small merchants and firecracker sellers. Toys, FMCG items, electrical home equipment, utensils, confectionery gadgets, reward gadgets, residence furnishing, sweets, decor, apparels, footwear, Diwali pooja gadgets akin to clay diyas, handicraft merchandise had been in excessive demand in the course of the Diwali festive season.

CAIT had issued a name to boycott the Chinese merchandise following the stress between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.

“As per reports gathered from 20 different cities which are also considered to be the leading distribution centres of India, it is expected that Diwali festive sales generated a turnover of about Rs 72,000 crores and gave China the expected loss of Rs 40,000 crore,” CAIT stated in a press release.
